AUDIOPHILE MUSIC STREAMER WITH CHROMECAST, AIRPLAY 2, SPOTIFY CONNECT & ROON READY
We’ve packed SOLO full of features so you’ll never need another streamer. Nice, right? With SOLO you get AirPlay2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, Bluetooth and Roon Ready. We’ll continue to update SOLO with new features as well, so if anything new and exciting comes along, we’ll be sure to add it in a future update – completely free of course. With analogue, optical and coaxial outputs, connection SOLO to anything should be a breeze.
In designing the SOLO, we made sure to make a product that would make audiophiles happy, but at a price where everyone can get in on the fun. With a signal-to-noise ratio of over 120 dBA, 64 bit volume control and high end components where they really make a difference (but not where they don’t), you can be sure you’ll hear every detail of your favorite songs. Having separate low noise power supplies with two stage (active/passive) filtering might sound like mumbo jumbo but have a listen to SOLO and we promise you can hear the difference.
Making a product without an Ethernet connection is a bold move. To make sure you don’t get drop outs, we’ve designed the wireless connection on SOLO with powerful dual band AC Wi-Fi using diversity antennas. You should have no problem with 24 bit/192 kHz lossless playback over Wi-Fi if your own network is up to the task. The internal Wi-Fi antennas have been placed so that the area with analogue circuits is completely radio-dead, while at the same time covering 360 degrees around the product.
Argon Audio SOLO fulfils its promise: Audio streaming made easy. It does so without any fuzz, which is (unfortunately) still remarkable in streaming land. The SOLO offers a particularly wide range of streaming options. Supporting AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth there are something for every music lover out there. With Roon Ready even the most discerning audiophile is happy!
Argon Audio SOLO is a great little box! Supporting various streaming services. It is easy and reliable to set up and provides a really clean sound that even demanding listeners will be satisfied with.
Grade: 1.3 | Class: Premium Class | Price/Performance: Very good
The SOLO's sound quality operates on a level I'd not believed possible for sub €500 streamers until recently. It's not the most dynamic slugger or analytical detail freak. Instead, it wins points on a just minimally distanced but very mature pleasure sound that's relaxed yet authoritative, clean/undistorted and spatially expansive. Featurization of Bluetooth, AirPlay and Roon Ready is quite packed if not fully maxed out. Optics, hands-on and industrial design all are exceptional for the money.
The Argon Audio SOLO isn't just an add-on or upgrade path for existing models of the brand. For this coin, it's a true price/performance sensation.
The Argon Audio SOLO does everything right! Its only tiny shortcoming, the lack of an Ethernet socket, can be tolerated in most cases. The Argon Audio streamer is a versatile upgrade option for existing hi-fi systems and active loudspeakers at a low price, which does its job uncomplicatedly in the background. It is also Roon Ready and sounds very good. In short; It's amazing!
Argon Audio SOLO is a simple and well-functioning streaming device, that can upgrade an existing amplifier with wireless audio streaming in HD quality. It is easy and hassle-free to use – and neat and discreet enough to be accepted into even critically curated interiors. In terms of sound; it manages better than its price suggests.
When you use the analogue output, you quickly hear that music-wise, this is a bit more “gloomy weather” than expensive high-end streamers, but considering the price, it is impossible to criticize Solo for anything. It works well, it is easy to set up, and once it is up and running, it functions without any problems and requires no digital maintenance. If you want to get the full benefit out of it, combine it with an external digital converter or connect it digitally to one of the amplifier's or receiver's digital inputs. Then the result clearly exceeds the price you must pay.
It is amazing how much quality can be achieved for only 249 euros nowadays. Obviously to make this happen Argon Audio had to rationalize costs, and in our opinion, it has succeeded. If you are an old-fashioned audiophile loyal to your beloved physical media, a solution like this could give a breath of fresh air or rather "audiophile liquidity" to your Hi-Fi system. In short, at this price, the Argon Audio manages to offer excellent reproduction quality.

The Solo is a small streamer that can’t satisfy all wishes. It needs stable Wi-Fi access, and USB access is also missing. However, it has a lot to offer in terms of sound. The price of only 250 Euros for a Roon Ready streamer makes the Solo a hit!
SOUND RATING: 100 POINTS

I bought the SOLO to use with Roon, and into a Marantz Model 40n. This amp is capable for streaming but isn't "roon ready". I haven't used the DAC in the solo - I am connecting it via coaxial to my amp.
Anyway - things I like:
- Easy to set up with an iPhone
- I am able to power it via the USB socket from my amp, saving me a power socket at the wall
- Nice neat little box, logo looks classy
- WiFi is ROCK SOLID in my house, no drops at all
- Fantastic integration with Roon
- The digital out sounds fantastic to me, though I would hesitate to describe myself as an audiophile
If Marantz ever sort out their Roon integration, I also think the Solo would be a great way to add streaming to any older amp - it really does give all the options to steam whether Roon, airplay, chromecast etc.
Really nice bit of kit - zero regrets on my purchase. Thank you!
ok my start with this product was not great. i could not get it in my network via the Google Home App. The chrome cast functionality in my network had been rock solid. but i could not complete the installation for this thing. As i have a mesh network this is the first issue i had. the solo was found and configured but when it needed to connect to the network no other device could find it. so i solved it by creating an extra separate wifi SID for the argon solo. connect my phone and laptop to this wifi also now the issues are gone.-
Sound quality, even via Chrome-cast is fantastic. Before i had a laptop with a USB dragonfly DAC and a very long cable. but this sounds so much better.
Detail is sparkly without being harsh, mids are solid with great separation and wide spatial soundstage. bass is tight and solid big sounding.
so hope they fix the network issues i encountered as all my other chrome-cast devices had no such issue.
but sound-quality wise this little thing is a no brainer and i am going to get Roon soon as then i can take it to a new level.
