Serious but user-friendly turntable for music lovers
Building upon our very successful TT-3 turntable, we’ve basically kept everything that makes that turntable great, and amped everything else up to the next level. As a result, in TT-4, you get a thicker, sturdier plinth, a heavier platter and improved decoupling feet. All this works in tandem to provide a better foundation for your records; meaning you get lower distortion caused by vibrations and a more clear, natural sound.
A tonearm needs to be both very lightweight, but also extremely rigid at the same time. Since carbon fiber scores high in both categories, it is pretty much a perfect material for tonearms, and we have therefore decided to use this for the first time in an Argon Audio turntable. To make the upgrade complete, we’ve also fitted an even better pick up from Danish Ortofon at the end of the arm. The 2M Red has long been the MM-pickup to beat at its price point, and we think it sounds fantastic on our TT-4 as well.
TT-4 comes with a built-in phono amplifier (MM) of very high quality. This means that TT-4 can be used with all amplifiers and active speakers directly – no external phono amplification needed. We’ve even custom designed the built-in amplification to sound way better than anything available at this price point, using high-quality components only. And don’t worry: when the phono amplifier is turned off, it has no effect on the signal path.
Hey – don’t leave! This ATS stuff sounds technical, but we promise it makes sense. In making the new carbon fiber tonearm, we found that there were some nasty internal resonances and distortions of the arm going on that negatively impacted the performance of the stylus when tracking the groove. The good news is that we have solved it! Basically, the trick is this: we make a very small, precise aperture along the underside of the tonearm. This cut does not affect the weight or stiffness of the arm, but it eliminates resonances caused by torsion (bending/curving), which would normally cause unwanted noise and distortion that would travel all the way out into your speakers. The result: you get the clearest, cleanest sound you have ever heard from a turntable in this price range.
Reviews of TT-4
The Argon Audio TT-4 is a very complete turntable that can certainly compete with the main competitors at this price point. The finish is of a high standard and the heavy-duty construction guarantees a good playback of your vinyl collection. Moreover, the presence of a better-quality built-in phono amplifier makes the TT-4 a versatile turntable that you can connect to the aux input of a wireless speaker or soundbar.
This deck is all about pitch-perfect, accurate music replay, aided by a 1.5kg platter, heavyweight MDF plinth and vibration-damping feet – even the 8.9in carbon-fibre tonearm features an ATS (Anisotropic Torsion Stabiliser) system to minimise resonances. Ease of use is aided by the TT-4’s integrated, high-quality RIAA phono preamp, electronic speed control and prefitted Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. And with its timeless combination of wood veneer, black and white chassis options, this overperforming turntable is a bit of a looker too…
With the new turntable top model: TT-4, Argon Audio convinces all along the line and remains true to the concept of "maximum sound at a reasonable price".
Top Class: 1,0
Value for money: Excellent
In terms of price, the Argon Audio TT4 moves into the segment of the market where competition is very fierce. Nevertheless, I think it deserves a place there. Because of its solid construction, its innovative arm, its stable rectifier, its easy commissioning, and of course its excellent playback via the built-in phono amplifier.
It's hard not to fall in love with the TT-4. Both in design and sound, it's so retro it almost hurts (in a good way). It's easy to operate, it looks good, and it's great that it can be used both in a system with an amplifier and directly for active speakers.
Priced at under €700 it's a really good product that's both solid, stuffed with lots of cool technology, and delivers a great sound.
So, if you're into analog sound I can highly recommend the TT-4.
The playback is very quiet, and right from the start, this turntable brings out unexpected dynamics. The bass range is articulated and extended, and background noise is virtually non-existent. Put on a Chopin piano concerto and the Argon Audio TT-4 turntable brings a sound very close to instruments played live, and the piano is reproduced flawlessly given this turntable's range.
The TT-4 is convincing on several levels: its timeless and chic design, its sophisticated concept, the high-quality tonearm, the really good cartridge system and, of course, its integrated phono preamplifier. Style and features are complemented by the sound: The Argon Audio actually performs really well. In my test, it presents itself as an exciting all-rounder that can master soft tones just as well as rocking guitar sounds and heavy bass beats. All things considered, the Danish turntable is an unconditional recommendation for vinyl newcomers with high sound demands and for all those who are looking for a cool and flexible turntable without having to clutter up their living environment with many hi-fi components.
A well though out and sophisticatedly made great turntable. Massive appearance in the rack, great finish. If you don't want an external phono box, you can simply turn on the internal amp. The sound is perfectly tailored to the cozy vinyl feeling, but with nice pressure from the speaker level. The price is so small that one is tempted to find a catch. Spoiler: there is none.
The TT-4 is one of the best-made designs in its price group. Thanks to well-thought-out solutions and high-quality materials, this Scandinavian turntable has great potential for expansion, both with a higher-quality magnetic cartridge and an external phono stage.
Je suis pleinement satisfait de ma platine TT-4 ! Elle est arrivée en moins de 5 jours à destination (France). La platine est de très belle qualité, elle est vraiment magnifique ! Très simple d'installation, même sans notice en français !
Pretty well made turntable, adjustable feets, antiskating, great carbon tonearm that allow perfect playback! I don't thnik the use of Ortofon 2M red is the best cartige for that turntable, I personaly recomand to use the Ortofon Super OM 5E, much better sound clarity for less money or use at least the 2M blue. Also change RCA Cable and add a leather slipmat to improve the sound quality and reducing resonances and static. The RIAA preamp is not so good, better use and external one. To reduce price Argon should think to sell a less equiped turntable focus on the esstential, no need for RIAA intergrated, no need to add a premonted "basic" cartridge, that truntable could be sold for less that 500€ and custumers can chosse their own cartridge regarding the sound quality they seek. That truntable do the job to play vinyl at 33 or 45rpm perfectly with that ATS technology (patent pending) for clearer sound it is true!
The TT-4 is fantastic!
Let’s start over.
First, the order process was perfect, easy going and shipping was transparent as state of the art today.
Second, (un)boxing was great success. Every little item was well packed and protected and easy to assemble. All parts are of highest quality in production. Not even one single little fail. Every part of perfect quality!
Just check the settings at my Amp and switch to direct signal.
Third, first impression. So I selected a record pressed 80’s from Miles Davis. Needle down, silence, first note - WOW! Closed eyes and I was in the middle of the Band. It’s amazing how natural and precise the sound comes through the speakers.
Fourth, challenging TT-4. Switch over to Kraftwerk Autobahn - just smiling all time. Every little note perfect accents, clear high and precise lowest bass. Next, Metallica same emotions.
Just fall in love with my new TT-4. It’s a just-by!
