Last week, I bought two pairs of FORUS 4 speakers, one for each of my kids' bedrooms, and we are absolutely thrilled with the results!
I built a custom audio streamer for my teenagers based on a Raspberry Pi + HiFiBerry AMP setup running a Docker container with Tidal Connect. The FORUS 4 turned out to be the absolute sweet spot for this audio chain.
They fit into our custom shelving like they were made to measure, look gorgeous in white, and the sound quality is a massive upgrade over our previous utility speakers. While it’s not $10,000 audiophile gear, it offers everything a modern setup needs: fantastic clarity, a rich and punchy sound, and clean Scandinavian design. They easily fill small rooms with rich, engaging music.
Of course, given the ultra-compact size of the enclosures, they don't go quite as deep as their bigger siblings, but the bass response definitely exceeded my expectations. For those who want to shake the whole house, there are plenty of subwoofer options available in the lineup. Though, as a parent, you might actually prefer to avoid those! :D
For anyone on the fence about these speakers: go for it! Incredible value for money and a true joy to listen to. Thanks for making such a great product!

Ich habe genau das bekommen was ich haben wollte. Die Boxen sind sehr angenehm zu hören, weil musikalisch abgestimmt. Der Bassbereich unterhalb 70 Hz fehlt , dafür wäre ein Subwoofer zwingend notwendig. Bei meinem Setup wollte ich mehr das Monitoring der Musik betonen. Ich höre die Details, auch Raum wird abgebildet etc..Insgesamt also eine echte HiFi Lösung zum fairen Preis. Übrigens, die Verarbeitung ist tadellos, der Bestellvorgang und der Service sind es auch.
Alta qualità a buon prezzo. Ho già altri diffusori (attivi) Argon Audio e conosco bene la portanza dei bassi corposi e degli alti chiari e cristallini.
Grazie a loro ho recuperato un giradischi Tecnichis e un amplificatore Pioneers. Vecchi ricordi di gioventù. Il vintage di sposa bene con la modernità dei sistemi HiFi all’avanguardia.

Which Argon Audio amplifier should I choose for these speakers?
The FORUS 4 is compatible with any Argon Audio stereo amplifier (SA1 MK2 or SA2) designed to drive passive speakers. The best choice depends on your preferred features, listening habits, and the sources you plan to connect.
When choosing an amplifier, consider whether you need:

What speaker cable should I use?
Any good-quality speaker cable will work well with any FORUS speakers. As a general guide:
Cables should be kept as sort as possible and of a smiliar lenght to each speaker.
BASIC 1 is already a perfectly good choice. If you're building a more ambitious system or want a premium cable, PRIME 1 is the natural upgrade. CLASSIC 1 is primarily about its thicker conductor, making it the better option for longer runs rather than a guaranteed sound quality upgrade.
How much amplifier power do these speakers require?
We intentionally avoid specifying the wattage of our speakers. The reason is that wattage doesn't provide a clear indication of compatibility with a specific amplifier. This is due to variations in how wattage is measured across different brands.
Moreover, even accurate wattage specifications don't necessarily reflect the quality of sound or the volume level of the speakers.
However, we do have specific recommendations: for the FORUS 4, amplifiers within the 30-80 W range are ideal. Our SA1 MK2 and SA2 amplifiers are matched to comfortably drive the FORUS range.
More power generally means more headroom and control, not just more volume, so it's rarely a problem to have some extra in reserve. For exact power handling and impedance figures for your specific model, check the product page or manual.
Can I connect a turntable directly to these speakers?
No. FORUS 4 is a passive speaker and does not have a built-in amplifier, so a turntable cannot be connected directly to it.
Unlike our active speaker series (FENRIS, FORTE, and STUDIE 3) and our stereo amplifiers (SA1 MK2 and SA2), FORUS 4 does not feature RCA inputs, PHONO inputs, or any other source connections.
To use a turntable with FORUS 4, you will need a stereo amplifier or AV receiver between the turntable and the speakers. If your turntable does not have a built-in phono preamp (RIAA), you will also need either an amplifier with a PHONO input or an external phono preamp.
Can I use these speakers for home cinema (5.1 or more)?
Yes. FORUS 4 speakers can be used as part of a home cinema system, including 5.1, 7.1, and larger surround sound setups.
They are ideal as front, surround, or rear speakers in a multi-channel system. To use them for home cinema, you will need a compatible AV receiver (home cinema amplifier) to power the speakers and process surround sound formats.
What is the difference between bookshelf and floorstanding speakers?
The main difference is size, bass performance, and output capability.
Bookshelf speakers are more compact and use a single woofer and tweeter. They are easier to place on furniture, stands, or shelves and are often a great choice for smaller to medium-sized rooms. While they deliver excellent sound quality, many listeners choose to pair them with a subwoofer for deeper bass.
Floorstanding speakers are larger and typically feature two woofers and a tweeter. The additional driver area and larger cabinet allow them to produce deeper bass, higher output levels, and a bigger, more effortless sound. They are often the preferred choice for larger rooms and listeners who want strong bass performance without adding a subwoofer.
Both speaker types can deliver outstanding sound quality. The best choice depends on your room size, available space, and listening preferences.
What is the difference between active and passive speakers?
The main difference is that active speakers have a built-in amplifier, while passive speakers require an external amplifier to power them.
At Argon Audio, our FENRIS, FORTE, and STUDIE 3 series are active speakers. They combine the amplifier, drivers, crossover, and DSP (Digital Signal Processing) into a single, carefully tuned system. Because every component is designed to work together, the amplifier is perfectly matched to the drivers, resulting in optimized performance, excellent sound quality, and a simple plug-and-play setup.
Active speakers can be connected directly to sources such as TVs, turntables, smartphones, computers, streamers, and CD players, eliminating the need for a separate amplifier and reducing both clutter and setup time.
Our FORUS series consists of passive speakers. These speakers require an external amplifier or AV receiver to provide power and manage audio sources. This approach offers greater flexibility, allowing you to choose, upgrade, or replace your amplifier independently as your system evolves.
For stereo music systems, FORUS speakers pair perfectly with stereo amplifiers such as the SA1 MK2 or SA2. If you're planning to build a home cinema system with surround sound (5.1, 7.1, or more), you'll need a compatible AV receiver instead of a stereo amplifier.
Which should you choose? If you're looking for the simplest, smartest all-in-one solution with exceptional sound quality and minimal setup, active speakers are the ideal choice. If you prefer maximum flexibility, enjoy upgrading individual components, or plan to build a surround sound home cinema system, passive speakers may be the better fit.
How far should the speakers be placed from the wall?
As a starting point, we recommend placing FORUS 4 speakers 10–30 cm (4–12 inches) from the rear wall. This usually provides a good balance between bass performance, soundstage, and clarity.
Placing the speakers closer to the wall will increase bass output, while moving them further into the room can improve imaging and reduce bass coloration.
Small adjustments can make a noticeable difference, so feel free to experiment with positioning to find the sound that works best in your room.
Can I add a subwoofer to my setup?
Yes, but not directly to the speakers themselves. Since FORUS 4 is a passive speaker, the subwoofer must be connected to the amplifier or AV receiver powering the system.
Adding a subwoofer is often highly beneficial with FORUS 4, as it allows the system to reproduce deeper bass frequencies that the speakers cannot reach on their own. This results in a fuller sound for both music, movies, and gaming.
