Argon Audio TT-4 SPECIAL EDITION
Show your vinyl collection some love with this Special Edition turntable
In many ways, the TT-4 Special Edition is similar to the TT-4 it is built upon. You get all the great features from that turntable, including the built-in RIAA and the ATS technology, but now on top you also get some added features. With the new rubber mat and dampened platter, you get a platter that is virtually vibration-free, giving your music even higher clarity and less noise.
A tonearm needs to be both very lightweight, but also extremely rigid at the same time. Since carbon fiber scores high in both categories, it is pretty much a perfect material for tonearms, and we have therefore decided to use this for the first time in an Argon Audio turntable when making the original TT-4. In this Special Edition, we’ve fitted the brilliant 2m Bronze pick up from Danish Ortofon at the end of the arm. To make sure the 2m Bronze performs to its best ability, we even upgraded the internal wiring to the pickup.
TT-4 Special Edition comes with a built-in phono amplifier (MM) of very high quality. This means that TT-4 Special Edition can be used with all amplifiers and active speakers directly – no external phono amplification needed. We’ve even custom designed the built-in amplification to sound way better than anything available at this price point, using high-quality components only.
Hey – don’t leave! This ATS stuff sounds technical, but we promise it makes sense. In making the new carbon fiber tonearm, we found that there were some nasty internal resonances and distortions of the arm going on that negatively impacted the performance of the stylus when tracking the groove. The good news is that we have solved it! Basically, the trick is this: we make a very small, precise aperture along the underside of the tonearm. This cut does not affect the weight or stiffness of the arm, but it makes the arm less resistant to torsion (bending/curving), in turn reducing internal resonances in the arm which would of course normally travel all the way out into your speakers. The result: you get the clearest, cleanest sound you have ever heard from a turntable in this price range.
The Argon TT-4 Special Edition continues the path set by the base model, especially when it comes to sound quality. It delivers a solid and powerful performance in the low and mid-range frequencies. The claim about resonance suppression in the tonearm definitely holds true, and on top of that, the effective damping of the platter further enhances the overall tranquility and stability of the playback. [...] With the TT-4 Special Edition, Argon Audio manages to reach audiophile levels of sound quality by making improvements in the right areas.
With a lavish design and a better pickup, the Argon Audio TT-4 Special Edition is a better player than the player it’s based on. You could argue that you could upgrade from 2M Red to Bronze on a regular TT-4 and get a significant boost in sound quality. This is true, but it won’t save you money. In fact, it will cost you more to upgrade than buying a TT-4 SE to begin with. Which is an excellent turntable whose only problem is that competition in this particular class is fierce.
"On the plus side are the beautiful finish of the player, its smooth running and the full-sounding internal preamp, which makes the turntable a really good turntable with a preamp that you can connect directly to your active speakers."
"What does matter is that the TT-4 Special Edition offers a lot for its (higher) price. The original TT-4 is a fine turntable that provides a solid foundation for this special edition. The tweaks now added add refinement, allowing the Argon turntable to stand its ground compared to other turntables. Admittedly, the big jump in quality comes from the 2M Bronze element. This delivers smooth, crisp detail reproduction without becoming analytical. If you are coming from a cheaper turntable, you will be surprised how spacious and grand your vinyl can sound. That makes the TT-4 Special Edition a turntable that, [...] is still highly recommended for vinylistas yearning for more."
"We discussed the numerous features and the impeccable workmanship of the belt-turning unit in our article. The first-class paintwork is also worth mentioning again. The convenient speed control is of course still available via a rotary control. The high-quality tonearm and the supplied pick-up system in the form of the Ortofon 2M Bronze also speak for themselves and result in excellent sound quality. [...] With the estimated price, the Argon Audio TT-4 Special Edition represents an absolutely fair offer, with which you can get started straight away and have a lot of fun without any additional costs."
"Argon Audio's TT-4 is a great turntable, regardless of price. It even shows it with its unique construction and is sure to make anyone who gets it happy!"

You can connect the TT-4 Special Edition directly to a pair of active (powered) speakers or to an amplifier/receiver with passive speakers. An RCA cable is included for easy connection.
The TT-4 Special Edition features a built-in phono preamplifier (RIAA) that can be switched ON or OFF using the switch on the rear panel.
Choose the correct setting for your setup:
For Argon Audio active speakers or amplifiers
We recommend setting the TT-4 Special Edition to RIAA ON and connecting it to an AUX, LINE IN, or another line-level input. The built-in phono preamplifier in the TT-4 Special Edition has been carefully matched to the supplied cartridge, providing excellent sound quality and the simplest setup.
Yes. This turntable features a built-in phono preamplifier (RIAA) that can be switched ON or OFF using the switch on the rear panel.
Choose the correct setting for your setup:
No. This turntable does not feature Bluetooth connectivity and is designed for a wired audio connection.
It connects via the included RCA cable, allowing the analog audio signal to be sent directly to an amplifier, a pair of active speakers, or an external phono preamplifier.
Bluetooth audio requires the analog signal from the turntable to be converted into a digital signal before it can be transmitted wirelessly. While modern Bluetooth codecs can deliver excellent sound quality, wireless transmission still involves digital processing and compression.
By using a wired RCA connection, this turntable preserves the original analog signal path and avoids unnecessary signal processing, providing the most faithful vinyl listening experience.
This turntable is compatible with a wide range of replacement styli and cartridges, allowing you to upgrade its sound quality over time.
