For moments that deserve more
BERLIN SUB 12 is made for those moments when ordinary speakers simply can't keep up.
The powerful 12" long-stroke woofer delivers deep, room-filling bass with the kind of scale and authority normally associated with much larger subwoofers. Whether it's a blockbuster soundtrack, a live concert recording or the latest boss fight, BERLIN SUB 12 adds the weight, energy and excitement that bring the experience to life. And thanks to its compact sealed cabinet, all that performance comes without taking over your living room.
Built-in MATRIX Wireless™ capability makes placement easier too. Simply add the optional Matrix transmitter (coming soon) to your speakers and position the subwoofer where you want it rather than where cables allow. MATRIX Wireless™ continuously scans the wireless environment and automatically selects the most stable connection for reliable performance and seamless integration.
Built for more than explosions
Sure, BERLIN SUB 12 can shake the room when the movie calls for it. But that's only half the story.
Many powerful subwoofers are tuned to impress at first listen. BERLIN SUB 12 is designed to keep delivering long after the novelty wears off. The combination of a custom long-stroke woofer, advanced DSP and technologies like Real Time Bass™ and Speakermatch™ helps it integrate naturally with the rest of your system. Speakermatch™ optimises the handover between subwoofer and speakers, creating a smoother, more seamless sound without the trial-and-error setup many subwoofers require.
The result is bass that adds depth, scale and realism without constantly demanding attention.
Real Time Bass™
Most subwoofers focus on output. The harder challenge is making bass arrive at exactly the right time and in sync with your speakers. When the timing is right, the subwoofer disappears into the system and simply makes your speakers sound bigger, fuller and more powerful. When timing is off, even a powerful subwoofer might actually be working against your speakers!
That's why we developed Real Time Bass™. By minimising processing delay inside the subwoofer, BERLIN SUB stays more closely synchronised with your speakers than conventional designs. And thanks to an ultra-low wired latency of just 0.19 ms, BERLIN SUB stays exceptionally well synchronised with your speakers, preserving the speed, punch and timing of the original signal.
The result is tighter bass, better punch and more natural integration. Music feels more rhythmic, movies more impactful, and setup even becomes easier because the subwoofer works with your speakers rather than against them.
In short: you get more impact, better timing and a noticeably more complete listening experience, especially with music.

FAQ
Do I need a subwoofer?
A subwoofer is not essential, but it can significantly enhance your listening experience by adding deeper, more powerful bass.
Most bookshelf speakers are not designed to reproduce the lowest frequencies, as their compact cabinets and smaller drivers limit deep bass performance. A subwoofer is specifically designed to handle these low frequencies, allowing your speakers to focus on mids and highs for a cleaner, more balanced sound.
For music, a subwoofer adds depth and impact. For movies and TV, it brings low-frequency effects and soundtracks to life. If you enjoy bass-rich music, home cinema, or simply want a fuller sound, a subwoofer is a worthwhile upgrade. If you mainly listen at lower volumes or in a small room, your speakers may already provide enough bass on their own.
Which subwoofer size is right for my room?
The ideal subwoofer size depends on your room size, listening habits, and how much bass you want.
6-inch subwoofers are best suited for smaller rooms, desktop setups, bedrooms, or listeners who want a subtle bass enhancement.
8-inch subwoofers offer a great balance of depth and control, making them a popular choice for most living rooms and music systems.
10-inch subwoofers provide deeper bass and higher output, making them ideal for larger rooms, home cinema setups, and bass-heavy music.
12-inch subwoofers are best for large spaces and demanding home cinema systems, delivering powerful, room-filling bass and excellent low-frequency extension.
Keep in mind that a larger subwoofer does not necessarily mean louder bass. Larger drivers can reproduce deeper frequencies more effortlessly and with less distortion, resulting in cleaner and more controlled bass.
How do I connect a subwoofer to my amplifier?
Most active subwoofers can be connected directly to an amplifier using a dedicated SUB OUT, PRE OUT, or LFE output. This is the recommended connection method for the best performance and easiest setup.
Our subwoofers are designed to work with line-level connections and do not support direct speaker-level (high-level) connections via standard speaker cables. Our Berlin Subwoofer series also offers XLR-inputs for the use with higher end amplifiers and processors. Before purchasing, make sure your amplifier has a compatible subwoofer or preamp output.
Always refer to the product manuals for detailed connection instructions and compatibility information.
What cables do I need to connect it to Argon Audio active speakers?
To connect a subwoofer to Argon Audio active speakers, the recommended cables depend on the speaker model.
For FENRIS speakers, we recommend the FENRIS Subwoofer Connect Kit
For FORTE (MK2 and WIFI) speakers, we recommend the FORTE Subwoofer Connect Kit
These kits include the cables needed for a simple and reliable connection between your speakers and subwoofer.
If you have any questions about compatibility or setup, feel free to contact our customer support team at support@argonaudio.com.
Where should I place my subwoofer?
Subwoofer placement can have a significant impact on bass performance. In most rooms, placing the subwoofer near the front of the room, close to your speakers, will provide the best integration and overall sound.
For maximum bass output, placing the subwoofer closer to a wall or in a corner can be effective. However, this may also result in bass that sounds too strong or uneven in some rooms.
Because every room is different, we recommend experimenting with different positions to find the best balance of depth, impact, and accuracy. Small adjustments in placement can often make a surprisingly large difference.
What should I set the crossover frequency to?
The ideal crossover frequency depends on your speakers. As a general rule, start by setting the crossover around 10–20 Hz above your speakers' lowest rated frequency response.
For most bookshelf speakers, a crossover setting between 70 and 100 Hz works well. Larger floorstanding speakers can often be crossed over lower, typically between 50 and 80 Hz.
The goal is to create a seamless transition between the speakers and subwoofer, so you should not be able to tell where the bass is coming from. If the bass sounds boomy or easy to locate, try lowering the crossover frequency. If the sound lacks warmth or impact, try increasing it slightly.
For the Berlin Subwoofer series we introduced the Speaker Match technology, that helps optimizing the sound of the crossover region. Please follow the Berlin Subwoofers manual for the optimal settings.
Will a subwoofer improve music listening or only movies?
A subwoofer can improve both music and movie listening.
For music, a subwoofer reproduces the deepest bass frequencies that many speakers, especially bookshelf speakers, cannot reach. This adds greater depth, detail, and realism to everything from electronic music and hip-hop to rock, jazz, and classical recordings.
For movies and TV, a subwoofer handles low-frequency effects, adding the impact and immersion that make action scenes and soundtracks more exciting. Most movies mixed in 5.1 surround sound or higher include a dedicated LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) channel specifically designed for a subwoofer.
When properly integrated, a good subwoofer does more than add extra bass. It creates a fuller, more balanced sound and allows your speakers to perform more effortlessly.
How do I adjust the volume and phase settings?
Start by setting the subwoofer volume to around 50% and adjust from there while listening to familiar music or movies. The goal is for the bass to blend naturally with your speakers, not overpower them.
The phase control helps the subwoofer work in sync with your speakers. Start with the phase set to 0°. If the bass sounds weak or lacks impact at your listening position, switch to 180° and choose the setting that delivers the fullest and most balanced bass.
Small adjustments to both volume and phase can make a noticeable difference, so take your time and fine-tune the settings to suit your room and system.
What is Speakermatch and why does it improve the sound of my subwoofer?
Every pair of speakers has its own natural sound profile. They have big differences in the bass region depending on how they are built. The problem is, most subwoofers also have their own sound profile. While sometimes the subwoofer and speakers fit together well in the region where both play - the so-called crossover region - often enough they don’t. the result is either a sound where the bass and the rest of the music feel disconnected, or the bass is just boomy and muddy.
Speakermatch fixes this in a simple way. You just tell BERLIN SUB what type of speakers you have, add the cross over frequency of your speaker and it automatically adjusts itself to blend in perfectly. No technical knowledge needed, no complicated setup — just smoother, more natural-sounding bass.
For certain Argon Audio and Radiant Acoustics speakers, BERLIN SUB even has ready-made presets that are fine-tuned specifically for them, so the match is even better.
The end result? Your subwoofer stops sounding like a separate box adding bass and starts sounding like it was built to go with your speakers. That's the kind of thing you don't have to be an audio expert to appreciate - you just hear the difference.
How does Real Time Bass improve your bass sound?
Ever notice how some subwoofers make bass feel a little "behind" the music, like it arrives a split second late and moves the room like a wave? That's a common issue with subwoofers, and it's one of the main reasons people say bass can sound sluggish, slow or disconnected from the rest of the music. Some subs are built in a way, where the construction itself causes delays in frequencies and some subs don't process in way that also delays some frequencies or even the whole signal - and often enough they all of this. This results in a phenomenon called “Group Delay”
Real Time Bass solves this, not only with a subwoofer built for fast and precise timing, but also with a powerful sound processor built specifically to react instantly. It constantly analyzes the music as it plays and makes tiny real-time adjustments, so the bass stays perfectly in step with everything else - no lag, no delay, no disconnect.
The difference is easy to hear, even if you're not an audio expert. Kick drums hit with real punch. Bass guitar has texture instead of just rumble. Movie explosions land with impact instead of smearing into a wall of noise.
In short, Real Time Bass makes your subwoofer disappear into the system. You stop noticing "the subwoofer" and just notice that the music sounds tight, punchy, and right.
What is MATRIX Wireless, and why does it matter?
Finding the perfect spot for a subwoofer usually means crawling around your living room testing different corners - and once you find the spot that sounds best, it often is just not cable-friendly. Long cables across the floor aren't exactly the dream home setup.
MATRIX Wireless solves that problem. With the optional MATRIX transmitter, BERLIN SUB can receive audio wirelessly, so you're free to place it wherever it sounds best or looks best - no long signal cable required. It still needs a power cable, but that's usually easy to hide near a wall or corner.
The wireless connection is built to stay reliable even in busy homes full of Wi-Fi routers, phones, and smart devices. It automatically monitors the wireless environment and picks the most stable connection, so you get consistent sound without dropouts or glitches.
Best of all, there's nothing extra to install at the subwoofer — the receiver is already built in. Just add the transmitter, plug in power, and place your subwoofer exactly where you want it.
Note: The transmitter will be available 2027.
What does the Subsonic Filter do?
Some bass frequencies are so low that you don't really "hear" them as musical notes - you feel them more than anything else. The Subsonic Filter lets you decide whether BERLIN SUB should reproduce those extreme low frequencies or filter them out, depending on what works best for your room and your ears.
By default, the filter is off, so the subwoofer plays everything, even frequencies below what most people can perceive. Switching it on applies a 10 Hz cutoff, which removes those ultra-low signals. Why would you want that? Reproducing those extreme lows takes a lot of power, so filtering them out frees up headroom in the amplifier, which can actually improve overall performance in scenarios like movie playback. If you use a turntable, turning the filter on can also help reduce rumble and unwanted noise picked up from vinyl records.
There's no universally "correct" setting; it comes down to preference and your setup. We recommend trying both modes with music and movies to hear what sounds best to you. And if you honestly can't tell the difference, turning the Subsonic Filter on is the safer choice, since it gives your amplifier a bit more breathing room.
