How To Get Better TV Audio

How To Get Better TV Audio

Everybody loves a nice flatscreen TV. We do too, but they have one glaring, fatal flaw. Most have (at best) subpar audio. But why is that? Well, it’s because of physics, but you don’t have to be Einstein to understand this, it’s actually pretty simple. More compact and thinner TVs have smaller enclosures, meaning they don’t have the necessary space to allow drivers that give you a big, punchy sound. Consequently, most movies fall flat if you just watch them without any kind of audio setup connected to your TV. If you want truly immersive and impactful audio there are a few ways to do so, and in this blog, we’ll show you 3 options: the decent, the great and the best.

The decent option: soundbars

We’re not ones to shy away from bashing soundbars – in fact, it’s one of our specialties. But that’s only when comparing them to our speakers; even we have to admit they do have some value. A soundbar is a cheap and easy way to upgrade your TV audio and most of them are definitely better than TV speakers. Still, we would be amiss not to mention that they produce mono sound and not stereo sound, meaning that although the sound quality might be decent you won’t feel the true immersion of the other options.

The great option: active speakers

For those looking for a cheap, quality sound setup active speakers are the way to go. Our FORTE and FENRIS speakers have built-in amplifiers and function as simple plug-and-play solutions meaning they’re just as simple and convenient as any soundbar. Additionally, they’ll provide a proper room-filling sound and just better quality. Even a smaller pair – like our A4 or A5 models *wink, wink* – will do wonders for your TV audio. You could even add a subwoofer to the compact speakers, and you’ll feel truly immersed in your favourite films – at an affordable price as well!

The best option: surround sound

If you’re a true movie connoisseur and looking to build yourself a proper home cinema surround sound is the way to go. You could choose a 5.1 setup with two front speakers, two back speakers, a center speaker, and a subwoofer. The point of the extra speakers is to up the immersion to the max, by letting you locate the sound, placing you directly in the action. Oh, and if you’re curious about that center speaker we mentioned you can read more about that here.

Our passive speaker series, FORUS, combined with a MALMÖ subwoofer will provide you with the perfect 5.1 setup. Just add a surround amplifier and you’re ready to take the cinema experience home.
