Argon Audio

The Story

Great sound shouldn't cost a fortune

Argon Audio started in Denmark around the turn of the century with one goal: to strip away the nonsense and deliver as much sound quality as possible for the money. From day one, we have challenged the idea that great audio has to be complicated or expensive. By focusing on performance, simplicity, and smart design, we create products that feel like they should cost more than they do. That idea still defines everything we do today.

We have always believed that good audio is about priorities. Sound quality comes first. Usability matters. Design matters. But every feature has to earn its place. Over the years, that thinking has helped shape products that feel honest: well-designed, easy to use, and able to compete with far more expensive alternatives.

"Argon Audio was born from our mission to make great sound accessible to everyone. It's always a careful balance, delivering real quality while keeping prices honest.

With Argon Audio, we've helped thousands of people discover what great audio can really sound like. It’s something we’re incredibly proud of, and we’re grateful for how our no-nonsense approach has resonated with reviewers, audiophiles, and everyday listeners alike."

Built on real audio experience

Our story starts with audio pioneers, HiFi Klubben. Argon Audio was born out of one of Europe’s best-known Hi-Fi retailers, and that heritage still matters. It means our products are not created in isolation, but shaped by decades of hands-on experience, customer feedback, and a deep understanding of what people actually want from their audio gear: better sound, better design, and better value.

From Denmark to the World

Fast forward to the year 2019, which was a very special one for Argon Audio. This was the year our company was established as an independent Ltd. company and was officially detached from HiFi Klubben. At the same time, we refreshed our logo to the one you see today.

Today, the CEO is named Henrik Sørensen, and with the priceless help and feedback from the over 600 employees of HiFi Klubben, Argon Audio continues to deliver the best service and products for our customers in all of Europe.

By focusing on products engineered in Denmark, Scandinavian design, sound that will surprise, and products with convenience in every aspect, Argon Audio is on the path to becoming the preferred supplier of modern audio products in Europe.

Argon Audio is still guided by Scandinavian values in both design and engineering. Whether you are listening to music, watching films, or building a simple home setup that sounds far better than it should, we believe audio should be both beautiful and accessible.

More than 20 years after the beginning, our goal is still the same as it was on day one: bring high-quality sound to more people through smart engineering, strong design, and honest pricing. That is the story of Argon Audio, and it is still being written, one product at a time.

HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR HISTORY

The Beginning of an Era

Let's take a trip back to the early 2000s — when the internet made strange dial-up noises, your phone flipped open with attitude & music mainly lived on CDs.

Back then, Argon Audio was founded as HiFi Klubben's in-house brand, dedicated to delivering quality sound to the entry-level market.

At the heart of it all was Klaus Philipsen, a passionate audio enthusiast who led the brand almost single-handedly. With vision and determination, he built an impressive lineup of products, laying the foundation for what would one day become the class-leading company we know today.

Our first breakthrough

Our first big success was the DAB1, a small tabletop radio with amazing sound quality compared to all its competitors.

DAB1 stood out for offering exceptional value without compromising on sound or design. It gave us the building blocks for the future and marked the beginning of something much bigger.

Later came the iNet2, which was one of the first products in the world to launch with Spotify Connect.

The move to 'proper hi-fi'

This year marked a real shift for Argon Audio. The first big change came with our first active stereo systems, 7340A and 7350A. At a time when active hi-fi speakers were still flying under the radar, we decided not to wait for the market to catch up — we moved first.

By bringing active technology into a wider context, we helped challenge old assumptions about what high-quality audio systems should be. What followed wasn’t just a product launch, but the start of a new direction — one where simplicity, performance, and integration came together in a single solution.

Since then, we’ve continued to push that idea forward, shaping and leading the market for affordable, all-in-one active speaker systems.

Retro is the new black

While it would still be a few years before turntable sales truly soared, the creation of our very first turntable, TT-1, marked the beginning of something special: a quiet revolution that would reignite the love for analogue sound.

Five years later, the TT-2 arrived. It remains to this day one of the best-selling turntables in Northern Europe, and provided amazing sound quality to thousands of people, even back when turntables were much less widespread than today. In 2020, it was replaced by the TT-3, which improved on every aspect but retained the best-in-class value that TT-2 offered at its time.

FORTE Takes the Stage

The launch of our FORTE active speakers marked a defining moment for Argon Audio.

This was more than just a new product; it was a statement. FORTE brought together everything we stand for: clean Scandinavian design, uncompromising performance, and exceptional value. Engineered in Denmark with meticulous attention to detail, it challenged the idea that high-quality sound has to come at a premium.

To put it bluntly: we raised the bar. And for years to come, FORTE would do exactly what it was built to do: fill homes around the world with rich, powerful sound.

A New Era

Argon Audio was growing. We needed room to breathe, to experiment, and to push boundaries further. So we made a bold move: branching away from HiFi Klubben to stand firmly on our own as an independent company.

This move was about claiming freedom. The freedom to challenge expectations and to design audio products that stand out in a crowded hi-fi landscape.

It marked a turning point with greater pace, sharper ambition, and a more defined point of view. Leading us into this next chapter is our CEO, Henrik Sørensen. With a clear vision and a drive to do things differently, he’s guiding Nordic HiFi towards a future shaped by innovation, great sound, and a relentless focus on creating the best audio experiences for the customer.

Going Worldwide

Once we stood on our own, the horizon widened and so did the world’s attention. Argon Audio was truly stepping onto a global stage.

Over the years, our products found their way into more than 300 retailers across every continent, and the momentum hasn’t slowed since. What started as an ambition turned into a clear mission: to bring great-sounding, value-for-money hi-fi to as many people as possible.

And from that point on, it was game on.

Our first EISA-award

Best Value Turntable 2022 goes to… Argon Audio TT-4. Not bad.

Praised for its solid build quality and outstanding sound performance, TT-4 picked up one of the most respected accolades in the hi-fi world and made it clear we weren’t here to play it safe.

This was our move into more advanced turntable technology, done the Argon way. Designed to deliver an audiophile-grade listening experience without the usual price tag, the TT-4 punched well above its weight.

The award was a proud milestone, but more importantly, it reinforced what we’ve believed all along: great sound shouldn’t be reserved for the few.

Essentials

Essentials is our dedicated accessories brand built on the belief that the details deserve just as much attention as the main event.

Essentials started with a simple idea: the accessories shouldn’t be an afterthought. They should live up to the devices they’re made for.

Rooted in clean Nordic design and a focus on what actually matters, Essentials strips things back to basics, without ever feeling basic. No gimmicks, no unnecessary complexity, just well-crafted pieces designed to fit seamlessly into your setup, whether it’s hi-fi, TV, or anything in between.

Because the details matter. And when you get the essentials right, everything else falls into place.

The TT Expansion

As you might have noticed, turntables found a second wind after their so-called ‘downfall’ with the arrival of the CD. And that’s when things really started to spin.

We didn’t just expand our turntable line-up, we evolved it. Alongside entirely new models, we introduced MK2 versions of our existing range, refining and upgrading what was already there. Better components, improved performance, and thoughtful tweaks that made a real difference where it counts.

In a short space of time, the range grew into something far more complete — from the ultimate entry-level turntable, TT MK2, to the more advanced, high-end TT Signature.

A growing team

What started as a small, tight-knit team has grown into something much bigger.

In the early days, we were just a couple of people wearing multiple hats, moving fast and figuring things out as we went. But as Argon Audio grew, so did the team behind it.

Today, we’re more than 15 strong, bringing together expertise from across the board, from product development and design to marketing and engineering. And that last part matters. Because having our own engineers on board means we’re not just shaping ideas, we’re building them, refining them, and pushing them further every step of the way.
